| The Netherlands has two Civil Orders, created to honour people of merit. They are the Order of the Netherlands Lion and the Order of Orange-Nassau. Both Orders have their own individual history and character. It is the task of the Civil Honours Advisory Commission to check the honour nominations on a national basis with the Rules of Procedure and then advise the 'relevant minister' on the nominations. The Commission also advises on the conferral of the Honorary Medal for Charitable Assistance.
